PE Chemical exam transitioning to CBT in January 2018

The PE Chemical exam is scheduled to transition to a computer-based format with first testing appointments available in January 2018. The computer-based PE Chemical exam registration will open on June 19, 2017. The new computer-based PE Chemical exam will allow for year-round testing at approved Pearson VUE test centers. The new format will include a supplied digital PE Chemical Reference Handbook.

The computer-based PE Chemical exam also introduces a new testing component: alternative item types (AITs). AITs are questions other than traditional multiple-choice questions. AITs will not be a part of the exam during the April 2017 administration. Learn more about AITs.

PE Chemical Reference Handbook

The PE Chemical Reference Handbook is now available for download. It contains charts, formulas, tables, and other information that may help you answer questions on the PE Chemical exam. However, it does not contain all information required to answer every question; theories, conversions, formulas, and definitions that examinees are expected to know have not been included. Bringing the PE Chemical Reference Handbook to the April 2017 exam administration

The PE Chemical Reference Handbook has been designed to support the upcoming computer-based version of the PE Chemical exam. If you choose to include it as one of the many resources you bring to the pencil-and-paper exam administration in April 2017, it must be bound and remain bound according to the policies in the NCEES Examinee Guide. It should not be used as a single-source reference for the pencil-and-paper exam administration in April 2017.
