New Jersey exam registration

Examinees

To learn more about exam registration, authorization, and results, please select your exam from the choices below.

Fundamentals exams

The following information applies to all FE and FS applicants.

Eligibility

The New Jersey board does not require examinees to submit an application or an additional fee prior to registering with NCEES and scheduling an exam.

Examinees will be provided one attempt per testing window and no more than three attempts in a 12-month approval period, beginning with the examinee’s first attempt. Examinees who require more than three attempts or allow their 12-month approval period to expire must contact the board directly to obtain additional approvals.

Results

Exam results for the computer-based FE and FS exams are typically available within 7–10 business days. Examinees will receive an email notification from NCEES with instructions to view their results in their MyNCEES account. Results will include a link to your licensing board for additional state-specific information or instructions as appropriate.

All results are reported as pass or fail. If you fail the examination, you will receive a diagnostic report showing your performance for each of the major topics covered on the exam.

Cancellations and refunds

Refer to the section on computer-based exams in the NCEES Examinee Guide for information about cancellations, refunds, and rescheduling.

Professional exams

The following information applies to PE and PS examinees. New Jersey no longer offers the SE exam.

How do I register?

All first-time applicants must submit an application directly to the New Jersey board for eligibility determination. Applications must be received by the board’s application deadline, which can be found on the board’s website. After you have received approval from the board, you may schedule for an exam with PCS. Visit the PCS website for more information.

Each time you plan to sit for an exam, you must do the following:

  1. Register online with NCEES (deadline: August 28, 2014) to obtain your NCEES ID number and to select your exam and site.
  2. Schedule the exam with PCS. Pay the exam fee to PCS by the PCS scheduling deadline.

Exam type, discipline, module, and/or site cannot be changed after the NCEES registration deadline. PCS cannot make any exceptions.

Exam authorization

NCEES will email you 2–3 weeks before the exam with a link to download and print your exam authorization notice. Read it carefully. You will be required to present this document along with a valid, government-issued photo ID upon arrival at the exam site. Your exam authorization notice will include the exam location, start time, seat assignment, and any parking information.

Results

When results have been released (typically 8–10 weeks after the exam) and validated, NCEES will send an email informing you that your result can be accessed through your MyNCEES account. PCS will notify you via USPS of any state-specific exam results.

All results are reported as pass or fail. If you fail the examination, you will receive a diagnostic report showing your performance for each of the major topics covered on the exam.
