Military accommodations

Paper-and-pencil examinees: If you or your spouse is currently serving as an active-duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces, you can request to take an exam in a state or territory different from the one in which you are applying for licensure (including limited overseas locations).

Computer-based (CBT) examinees: If you or your spouse is currently serving as an active-duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces, you should request military accommodations only if you need an overseas location. Please note that Pearson VUE test centers for approved overseas examinees are very limited.

If you have questions, please email military@ncees.org.

Deadline

If requesting accommodations for the April 2022 pencil-and-paper PE Structural exams, all requests and supporting documentation must be received by 3:00 p.m. EST on February 24, 2022.

You must make the request for special accommodations each time you take an exam, even if you have been granted military accommodations for a past exam.

Applicants are encouraged to register for the exams as early as possible.

While there isn’t a stated deadline for computer-based testing (CBT) exams, examinees will not be authorized to schedule an appointment for testing until this process has been completed.

Requesting alternate exam location

When registering, select the state where you are applying for licensure and complete your registration as if you were sitting for the exam in that state. During registration, answer yes when asked if you need special accommodations. After you have registered, you will receive an email with a link to the accommodations section of your account, where you can provide information about where you would like to sit for the exam and upload a copy of your orders.

Supporting documentation

You will be required to upload or submit your orders indicating that you will be stationed outside the state where you have registered. You can upload the orders after registering, when you indicate where you wish to sit, or send it directly to military@ncees.org.

Notification

Generally, once your orders and preferred site request has been received, it takes about 5 business days to complete processing. After your request has been considered, NCEES will notify you of any alternate military testing granted. Communications from NCEES about your request are through email only, so please check your messages often in case more details are needed from you.
