Before registering for an NCEES exam, review your state’s (or foreign entity’s) unique registration and authorization process.

Engineering exams

NCEES develops and scores the FE and PE exams for engineering licensure. The FE exam is generally your first step in the process to becoming a licensed professional engineer (P.E.). It is designed for recent graduates and students who are close to finishing an undergraduate engineering degree from an EAC/ABET accredited program. The PE exam tests your ability to practice the engineering profession competently. It is designed for engineers who have gained at least four years of professional experience.

NCEES develops and scores the FS and PS exams for surveying licensure. The FS exam is generally your first step in the process to becoming a licensed professional surveyor (P.S.). It is designed for recent graduates and students who are close to finishing an undergraduate surveying degree from an ABET-accredited program. The PS exam tests your ability to practice the surveying profession competently. It is designed for surveyors who have gained at least four years of professional experience.
