NCEES Surveying Education Award $10,000 winner

Applied Computing and Geomatics Department

Geomatics program

How will your program use the prize money to engage your students with other professionals, introduce them to both historical and new technology, and promote licensure?

Our program plans to use the prize money to further strengthen student engagement with the surveying profession by supporting activities that connect students directly with licensed surveyors, industry professionals, alumni, and professional organizations. These activities may include student participation in professional meetings and conferences, guest lectures, field-based demonstrations, workshops, and networking opportunities with practicing surveyors.

The award will also help us enhance hands-on learning experiences that connect traditional surveying principles with current and emerging geospatial technologies. Oregon Tech’s Geomatics program emphasizes a strong combination of theory, problem-solving, and field work. The prize money will support activities that expose students to both the historical foundations of land surveying, including boundary law, field surveying, geodesy, and professional responsibility.
