CBT exams

NCEES began the process of transitioning exams to computer-based testing (CBT) in 2011. CBT offers many benefits, such as enhanced security for exam content and more uniformity in testing conditions. For most exams, it also provides greater scheduling flexibility.

The following exams are administered year-round via computer-based testing at Pearson VUE test centers.

• The FS exam
• The PS exam
• Some PE exam disciplines. See the exam conversion schedule.

Pencil-and-paper exams

The PE Structural exam is currently in the conversion process and scheduled to launch in computer-based format in 2024. It is currently offered in pencil-and-paper format and administered twice per year. The future dates for pencil-and-paper PE Structural exam are as follows:

PE exams offered once per year
