NCEES republishes proposed ANSI standard

NCEES, anaccredited standards developer with ANSI, has republished a proposed standard for the Model Law Structural Engineer designation for adoption by ANSI. NCEES first submitted the Model Law Structural Engineer draft standard in 2009. After the proposed standard underwent a period of public review, the NCEES Structural Engineering Exam Development Committee amended the definition based on comments received concerning the definition of the practice of structural engineering. The NCEES Board of Directors approved the revised proposed standard. It is now subject to public review for 30 days.

NCEES was granted status as an accredited standards developer with ANSI in 2007 and currently has two standards recognized by ANSI: the Model Law Engineer standard and the Model Law Surveyor standard, which outline the requirements for licensure as a professional engineer and professional surveyor, respectively. The criteria for both standards are divided into education, professional experience, and examinations.

As the U.S. representative to the International Organization for Standardization, ANSI oversees the development of standards for various products, services, and processes throughout the United States. Its membership includes more than 100,000 government agencies, corporations, and academic and international bodies.

Update, December 1, 2011: The period for public review is now closed.
