NCEES is excited to announce that Jared W. Riel is the organization’s new chief assessment officer. He officially began his role on October 12, 2026.
Riel is assuming the leadership responsibilities previously held by Lehmon Dekle, P.E., in his role as chief officer of examinations. As part of this transition, the position has been updated to “chief assessment officer” to reflect the role’s responsibilities and focus moving forward.
As chief assessment officer, Riel is responsible for the strategy, development, psychometric quality, and continuous evolution of NCEES licensure and credentialing assessments, including the organization’s engineering and surveying licensing exams.
Prior to joining NCEES, Riel served as chief assessment officer for the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He also previously served as director of test development for the American Board of Pediatrics and associate director of test development for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
“Jared will provide leadership and strategic direction for NCEES exams and help ensure their continued quality, integrity, and effectiveness,” NCEES Chief Executive Officer Davy McDowell, P.E., explained. “We look forward to the experience in innovative testing models, emerging technologies, and best practices that he is bringing to the organization.”
Dekle, who is retiring after 20 years with NCEES, will continue to assist with exam development projects until April 2, 2027.
