How did surveying become a passion of yours?
I am a second generation surveyor, so I’ve been around it my whole life. I saw how much my dad enjoyed doing it, and I realized early on that it was a profession I would enjoy!
What are your overall thoughts on the future of surveying? Biggest opportunities? Biggest challenges?
I think the future of surveying is exciting and will be challenging. There will be so many opportunities available for people, especially when we see so many surveyors retire. I think that also poses a bigger challenge to the next generation. It’s up to us to step up and learn all that we can and also support each other and the ones that are behind us now.
What advice would you give to those who are considering becoming a professional surveyor?
Do it. You won’t regret it. It opens the door to many other opportunities in our profession, and it’s also another way to sharpen your knowledge and skills with our profession.
How is the Young Surveyors Network helping to shape the future of surveying, and why is that important to you?
Young Surveyors Network (YSN) is an incredible group of young professionals who truly care about our profession both now and in the future. We are building strong relationships now that will help us later on in our careers. One of the ways we are helping to shape the future of surveying is through our student competition we host every spring in Washington, D.C. Supporting our current students and providing them a platform to showcase their skills is very important to their development. YSN’s efforts to bring others together and also support our future as a profession is so important to me because we are the future leaders (sooner than we realize) of this profession.
